Baggeridge Brick
has scooped four awards at an annual conference organised
by the British Ceramic Confederation in respect of its Health
and Safety Pledge.
The Pledge is a collaborative programme involving all UK ceramic
manufacturing companies, Trade Unions and the Health and Safety
Executive which aims to define targets for improvements in
health and safety performance, stimulating communication and
implementation on all matters relating to wellbeing in the
workplace.
Two corporate awards were presented to John Davies in recognition
of his role as Baggeridge’s Health and Safety manager
whilst individual awards were given to Martin Coleman, GMB
Union Representative from the company’s brick factory
in Waresley and to John Sandford, technical director, to commend

Commenting,
John said: “Health and Safety is an issue which is placed
high on our agenda so we are naturally delighted to have received
official recognition for our efforts.”
Affirming their commitment to helping ensure safety in the
workplace, staff at Baggeridge’s plant in Sedgley also
recently completed the first phase of an innovative Health
and Safety training programme.
The course involved a combination of knowledge, guidance and
practical activities which covered brick production processes
whilst supervisors also completed projects for the reduction
of specific hazards within the working environment.
Employees who successfully completed the intensive training
were presented with City and Guilds Certificates.
Health and Safety training was undertaken by Pilot IMS Limited
- an approved Centre for the City and Guilds of London Institute.
The Company, in association with Dudley College, is currently
running internationally recognised, City and Guilds courses
at every factory within the Baggeridge Brick organisation
in parallel with ongoing production activities with minimum
disruption to normal operations.
