THE BAGGERIDGE APPROACH TO MEET OUR FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
- Agree the overall aim of the environmental management system with the works management.
- Assess all environmental risks.
- Decide which risks are significant and need managing.
- Draft procedures to manage these risks fully involving the job holder, with help and advice from the Environment and Landsource Department and from the relevant manager.
- Ensure these procedures have been learnt using internal trainers. This is simplified by the job holder having written the procedure.
- Audit these procedures, using internal auditors, under a protocol set by Environment and Landsource Department.
This system is capable of a short audit by external auditors, if required,
for verification for external accreditation eg EMAS.
The Environment and Landsource Department has a system for reassessing
the risk, monitoring changes in legislation and changing the
procedures accordingly in consultation with the job holder and
manager.
As part of the audit and by regular review, the job holder and
manager continually seek ways in which the procedures can be
improved.
As part of this review, improvement projects are identified
for implementation by the management.
